Allez lire le livre…).</p> <p>Le livre est intéressant, le contexte mondial (pénurie d’énergie) plausible et représente bien ce qui pourrait être notre avenir rapproché.</p> <p>Quelques situations comiques s’insèrent dans le roman et m’ont bien fait sourire. Ajoutez quelques scènes d’actions et un brin de sci-fi / thriller et hop! Pas de hard sci-fi ici n’y rien de trop scientifique, seulement un bon petit divertissement.</p> <p>Rien n’est parfait bien sûr… Le roman est un peu court et certaines situations en souffrent en ce présentant un peu trop rapidement. A quick read.</p> <p><strong>A more detailed review…</strong></p> <p>Yesterday’s Thief is a small book I’ve got by participating to LibraryThing early reviewer / membership giveaway program.</p> <p>The main character is Eric Beckman, a private detective, which has a unique gift he uses during his investigation (No spoilers! 🙂 Go get the book if you want to know what it is..).</p> <p>The book is interesting and the global context (energy shortage) feels like a possible and near future of our own society.</p> <p>The book contains funny situations (mainly due to Eric’s gift) and made me smile a couple of time. Add a bit of action, a taste of sci-fi / thriller and hop! No hard sci-fi here, just a cool entertainment.</p> <p>Sure, nothing’s perfect… The book is a bit short and some situations lack a bit of development or background in my humble opinion. L’histoire est bien orientée afin d’inclure la sorcellerie et celle-ci explique également le petit côté dystopia du roman. Les personnages sont intéressants et bien distincts. J’ai particulièrement apprécié Sam et la façon dont l’auteur décrit sa dépendance à la drogue (mini spoiler…).</p> <p>Mon seul point négatif, et certains pourront être en désaccord, est la taille du roman, que je trouve un peu trop court. J’aurais aimé un peu plus de détails; un bon 100 pages de plus. Mais je pardonne volontiers à l’auteur si j’ai droit à une suite.</p> <p>Note : 7.5 / 10</p> <p><strong>Quick summary :</strong></p> <p>A very cool discovery with a lot of actions and good ideas.</p> <p><strong>A more detailed review…</strong></p> <p>The Lost Thorn is another surprise I’ve got from LibraryThing early reviewer / membership giveaway program.</p> <p>In this book, the author chooses to mix many different ideas; ideas you don’t normally find in the same science-fiction book.</p> <p>So : science-fiction + dystopia (until here, that’s fine) + magic.</p> <p>Yeah, magic :) and the end result is quite good! The story is build around the sorcery and it also explained the “dystopia context” that we have in the book. The characters are interesting and distinct. Sam is my favorite and I’ve appreciated how the author choose to describe her drug addiction (mini spoiler…).</p> <p>My only negative point, and some people may disagree, is the size of the novel which is too small in my opinion. I would have taken an additional 100 pages without any problem. Thanks to <a href="http://www.vertical-inc.com/">vertical</a> for bringing, translating and distributing it!</p> <p>OK, a bit of context…</p> <p>Monogatari is a series of novel by Nisio Isin and a huge success in Japan. Most novels are already adapted as anime and are excellent. The story tells the tale of Koyomi Araragi, a young male who need to deal with various mystical apparitions and creatures.</p> <p>What distinguish Monogatari from the other Japanese Animes / Mangas / Novels is the dialogs, the complex story and the way this story is told. Many mangas try to deal with complex situation (love, hate, friendship, violence, family, etc) like immature adolescents. I feel Monogatari has a more adult approach and is still able to stay as funny (the toothbrush scene!!) and exiting as hell.</p> <p>Kizumonogatari, specifically, is the beginning of this huge tale. It’s where the faith of Araragi is decided. It’s where he crosses Kiss-Shot (the cover), where he meets Hanekawa and becames what we can see in the anime. Les personnages sont amusants, le livre est rempli d’aventures et c’est certainement un bon choix pour les vacances.</p> <p><strong>Critique plus élaborée…</strong></p> <p>J’ai obtenu une copie de Milky Way Repo en participant au programme early reviewer / member giveaway de LibraryThing. Je crois sans me trompé qu’il s’agit du premier roman de Michael Prelee et je dois avoué qu’il s’agit d’un excellent départ!</p> <p>À travers le roman, nous suivons une petite équipe (la compagnie Milky Way Repossessions) dont le boulot est de reprendre possession de vaisseaux qui sont en défaut de paiement. Rien n’est simple évidement et l’équipe va devoir faire face à un bon défi afin de remplir leur tout dernier contrat.</p> <p>L’histoire est un bon mixe de science-fiction, d’aventure et un touche d’intrigue. Rien de super compliqué ou de dur à lire ici; nous sommes plus dans l’univers de Firefly que dans un roman d’Asimov. Les personnages sont distinctifs, amusants et l’auteur réussi bien à nous faire sentir un certain degré d’appartenance : on fait parti de l’équipe.</p> <p>En gros, une petit lecture rapide et agréable. 4<em>**</em></p> <p>Je garde un œil sur l’auteur à l’avenir. I think this is the first book from Michael Prelee and I must say a very good start!</p> <p>We follow a team who’s job is to reclaim unpaid starship at all cost : the Milky Way Repossessions company. Obviously, nothing is simple and they will face quite a bit of challenge to complete their latest contract.</p> <p>The story is a good mix of science-fiction, adventure, action and a bit of intrigue. No heavy stuff here, no hard science-fiction and complex language. It’s more Firefly than Asimov.</p> <p>Every characters in the book is distinctive. Most of them are funny / likable and the author did a very good job to introduce them : you feel like you’re being part of their team.</p> <p>A quick read and I will definitively keep an eye on the author. Je me suis cru dans un vieux film sur la guerre du Vietnam.</p> <p>Voyez-vous, il pleuvait depuis 4 jours lorsque le festival a débuté.</p> <p>Résultat (photo à l’arrivée) :</p> <p><img src="/assets/allemagne-05.jpg" alt="Allemagne 5" /></p> <p>Bon, la pluie a cessé et la dernière journée c’était praticable…</p> <p>Pour ce qui est du festival, c’était très cool. 100 000 personnes buvant (plusieurs un peu trop), mangeant et se précipitant de scène en scène pour voir les groupes. Plein de bon groupes, plusieurs découvertes et une sérieuse bonne dose de métal.</p> <p><img src="/assets/allemagne-06.jpg" alt="Allemagne 6" /></p> <p>Je dois avouer avoir tout de même souffert un peu :)</p> <p>Mes pieds sont en mauvais état après 4 jours de boue dans mes Doc Marten. J’ai aussi oublié 2-3 trucs essentiels lorsque l’on fait du camping (genre sandales de douche) et à quel point les nuits dans le nord de l’Allemagne peuvent être froides! Je suis sûr que plusieurs personnes ont passé proche de l’hypothermie dans la nuit de vendredi. Personnellement, j’ai acheté un coton ouaté sur place que j’ai gardé toute la nuit dans mon sac de couchage.</p> <p>Bon, toute bonne chose à une fin.</p> <p>Une “petite” dernière avant de quitter l’Allemagne…</p> <p><img src="/assets/allemagne-07.jpg" alt="Allemagne 7" /></p>
